Our Story
About Mu-Iota
The Mu-Iota Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity was founded on December 10th, 1983. Making history as Kappa Sigma's first Deaf and Hard of Hearing Chapter at Gallaudet University. To date, the Mu-Iota Chapter is the only International Fraternity on campus.

The Numbers
The Mu-Iota Chapter of Kappa Sigma is committed to Financial Transparency. To help give you the numbers you need to know before you make your decision in joining Kappa Sigma. On the national level, Kappa Sigma has the lowest dues for membership. Every dollar you put in, Kappa Sigma gives back two-fold.

Membership
Eligibility to Join
To be considered for membership in the Mu-Iota Chapter of Kappa Sigma, prospective members must meet the following academic requirements.
Academic Excellence
Minimum GPA of 2.3
Students may join if they have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3 or higher at the time of membership consideration.
Academic Progress
Minimum 24 Credits
Students may join if they have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours, demonstrating sufficient academic progress.

Any male student enrolled at Gallaudet University with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3 and at least 24 completed credit hours is eligible to pursue membership.
Mu-Iota welcomes all Male students at Gallaudet University regardless of hearing status. Our Chapter values diversity and brotherhood above all.
The Pledge Program is designed to introduce you to the history, values, and brotherhood of Kappa Sigma. It includes educational sessions, community service, and bonding activities. Hazing of any kind is strictly prohibited.
Membership dues cover HQ Fees, Chapter operations, and events. Kappa Sigma has some of the lowest dues of any international Fraternity. See the Numbers section for a full breakdown.
Kappa Sigma is built on Fellowship, Leadership, Scholarship, and Service. Every program and initiative within the Chapter is rooted in one or more of these pillars.

Yes. The Mu-Iota Chapter is a fully recognized student organization at Gallaudet University and operates under both university guidelines and Kappa Sigma International Headquarters policies.
Mu-Iota is the first Deaf and Hard of Hearing Chapter in Kappa Sigma history, and the only inter/national Greek Organization on Gallaudet campus. Chartered in 1983, it carries a legacy unlike any other.
